“Imagine if . . .”

The Reality of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

Imagine an Air Force mom, serving her country on a month-long deployment, who learns that her daughter has been secretly removed by local authorities, claiming the child has been “abandoned.” Children begin mandatory sex-education at the age of four, regardless of their family’s opinions, beliefs, or convictions, and parents are imprisoned if their children fail to receive any of their mandatory vaccinations. Parents live in a state of constant supervision and suspicion.

Imagine if your national government had the audacity to appoint a “guardian” to monitor your child from birth, charged with the legal responsibility to evaluate your decisions as a parent and armed with the legal authority to “intervene, prevent or rectify” any violations of your child’s rights. Public and private schools alike are policed by the national government, and classes begin with singing about the principles of peace, tolerance, and the United Nations. Your child’s confidential medical records, stored in a nation-wide electronic register from birth until age twenty, can be accessed at any time, without your knowledge, by any physician, teacher, or government social worker in the nation.

Now stop imagining, because for parents in the 193 countries that have ratified the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child, each of these scenarios is true.

Constant Supervision and Suspicion

Since its adoption by the United Nations in 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) has become the most widely accepted international agreement in history, ratified by every nation of the world except for the United States and Somalia. All signatories pledge to protect children’s rights, foster their development, and uphold their best interests by re-writing their national laws to conform to the standards set forth in the treaty.

While all this may sound harmless and even commendable, the reality is that the Convention allows and even demands that national governments interfere in the decisions of individual families and parents. By invoking the “best interests of the child ,” policymakers and government agents have the authority to substitute their own decisions for those of the child or parent. In short, parents lose their rights to be parents, and become merely caregivers. The result, as parents across the globe are now discovering, is that the family is being steadily undermined, often with tragic and devastating results for the very children who are supposed to be protected.

The Need for Vigilance

Thankfully, the United States still remains the sole organized government of the world that has rejected the Convention on the Rights of the Child, because our elected leaders emphatically rejected the Convention’s incursions on American law and the American family. America believes that international committees and courts should have no authority in the affairs of her families, and that the right and responsibility of lawmaking should be wielded only by her own sons and daughters.

This emphatic resistance, however, must be more than simply a one-time stand, for without vigilance on the part of its citizens, America is unlikely to remain the last stalwart defender of parental rights. Nations across the globe are reaffirming their commitment to the Convention every day, and domestic scholars, activists, judges, and politicians continue to urge us to join them.

To challenge their cries, ParentalRights.org will be taking a closer look at countries who have been recently cited by the United Nations as “model-governments” in the battle for children’s rights. Beneath their shiny veneer of success are stories and movements that reveal the dangers taking shape beyond our borders. Americans everywhere need to be informed about the true nature of the international movement for “child rights.” In short, they need to hear the stories of real parents, in real countries, who are becoming the real casualties of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

  • This information should scare the life into ALL parents and make them think about what ANY government claiming to help or protect them is doing. It should also make them think twice about who they vote into office! Unfortunately, I am more afraid it will do nothing because there are not enough brave people, let alone parents, who stand up for what they believe in anymore! God, PLEASE help us ALL!

  • If we as American’s were to adopt something like this I fear it would be the end of “a government for the people, by the people”. This is very scary for parents and especially for the American constitutional rights of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. I could go on, but there’s no need. Everyone with a brain, and/or a kid, gets it.

  • We need a strategy. Bombarding us with bad news is not a solution. All it does is make concerned parents feel increasingly powerless. Along with the bad news, we need to know what we can do to prevent what is being presented to us as a foregone conclusion.

  • This is the kind of change that Obama supporters voted for. My guess is that most of them had no idea of the kind of change they just voted in. They voted for change just for the sake of change. I fear greatly for all of us sound minded parents. Lord help us who are in the right mind up hold our parental rights and continue to fight the battle.

  • With Obama’s belief system and scary characteristics, it’s very important we stay in prayer against this kind of government, pray for officials and conviction against this in the hearts of our government leaders. Our children’s generation needs to understand WHERE they came from, HOW to keep our liberties.

  • This cannot be allowed to become law in America. We, as a nation, need to wake-up to the pattern of our central government using “safety”, “security” and “protection” as justifications for impinging individual liberty and freedom in this country.

  • Who is the U.N. to dictate to us what we can and cannot do with our kids? I’m proud to stand up with Somalia against the “Rights of the Child Act.” Who came up with this cockame’me bill anyhow? It allows the U.N. to come snooping into our homes while we have enough to do keeping the Child Protective Service out.

  • I am totally FOR PARENTS running their own families…without any government intervention, especially foreign government intervention. A petition is fantastic, has one been started? There is a rumbling underground…parents are very dissatisfied with the school system and vaccine schedule…it’s caused many to become more informed and to realize that our government is our biggest enemy. When the watchmen have shouted out warning signs we have sat idlely by for the past few generation. Are we now going to sit again or are we going to band together to and revolt for the just and biblical cause that we have been called to defend. I thank all who have been active and pray for more to come to the cause!!

  • This is the end of times. We must stand together or alone, but we must stand in GOD’s power. We must be guided by HIS spirit. It takes total surrender to HIS ways of doing things. Total surrender to HIS love. Denying ourselves many things. Are we ready, are we willing , are we already doing this? Many of us have already given into this U.N. way by just not taking care of our children and going to work for more money, more things. Children have become the enemy, getting in the way, stopping us from doing this or that, or we shove them around and into daycares so we can do what we want. Is that what GOD wants. Do we really care about all this change? Are we all talk and no action. Are we being the change we want to see in this world, even if we are alone. GOD help me! GOD help us!

  • This type of fear frenzy is irresponsible. In the US we have laws that protect our children. I have done missionary work in parts of the world where parents sell their children and abuses (sexual and other) are imposed upon children without any protection. Aren’t you the same folks who are anti-abortion? Are you saying a parent should have rights to abortion without gov. intervention? US soverignty is not what’s at stake here, children’s lives are. Don’t sign the UN treaty -because we have laws, but many countries don’t. Someone needs to watch out for those kids.

  • I too believe that we should get a petition going. Authorities, schools, and state departments intervene in cases of suspected abuse and drive towards the already horrifying abuse of the parent(s) in our society. In addition, some young people feel that they are the deciding factor in the home. We must not bar the parent from control of the minor. If parent(s) are denied to be the parent(s), many of them will forego needed legal assistance and driven to desperate courses of action.
    The proposed “parental rights” legislation is necessary, it pits parents against schools and government officials in an adversarial way encouraging parents to resort to lawsuits to solve their grievance(s). The resulting explosion of litigation will completely overwhelm our legal system, schools, and government agencies act as if they are the parents. This legislation seriously is in need, young people are getting the wrong idea, and it should be acted upon.

  • I agree with Yvette. We need a strategy. I’ve been researching socialism/marxism in history, and most recently, the tragic Russian revolution.

    It can be scary, but something to keep in mind with all of this is that, in America, there is still running deep in the veins of most of her citizens a sense of freedom (not the banal, pathetic brand of freedom that is presently bandied about in current pop culture, but the rich, expensive, blood-bought freedom that most of our ancestors prized and hazarded their lives for), deep Judeo-Christian ethics, and FIGHT. We are NOT a bunch of oppressed Russian peasants.

    So, anybody got a plan?

  • Less than one week after President-elect Obama made his grand acceptance speech in Grant Park, he is moving in quickly to identify and undo many of President Bush’s executive orders, including the ones about no government-funded stem cell research and no money to foreign countries who perform abortions (I have to say I always have found THAT one ironic, however). This morning I read that he plans to do away with Guantanamo Bay and move the terrorists to the mainland U.S. to hold trials and possibly let some go free. HE’S NOT EVEN PRESIDENT YET!

    By the way, I am not a racist because I didn’t vote for Obama. I wanted the OTHER black man to win, not because of his color, but because of his conviction. It is my understanding that Obama is a SOCIALIST with several MARXIST friends and a new chief of staff whose dad was involved in a terrorist movement in the earlier part of last century. Well, the part about his chief of staff’s dad is on Wikepedia. I am not sure where to turn for the truth in anything written by man, so I will stick with the truth of the Bible. Read, pray, and fight, because this man and his propaganda machine will continue to churn out executive orders (and legislation with the help of his overwhelmingly supportive Congress) that will tickle the ears of homosexuals, abortionists, UNCRC supporters, and other anti-family movements.

  • One man may not solely govern a country, but with the support of many people within our other branches of government and the common people who support them, much damage can and will be done. I try my best not to ascribe to doomsayers. On the other hand, one must keep eyes and ears open, remembering that our times are in His hands.

    There is no authority on this earth that has not been put there by God. Even an Obama presidency will serve His purpose, if only to “stir up” his many believers.

  • We need to be totally responsible for our children. Childcare in the US is a way of having other people raise your children. I work at a private Christian preschool and there are some kids that come @ 6 and leave @ 6. If we want a change, we need to start with ourselves.

    Every single person is accountable as to who and what they voted for…I know myself that like a previous comment stated, we as a Christian people failed in this election. We really need to seek God’s face and get on our face pleading for mercy, change our ways and press on in Christ not compromising our relationship and values!

  • We are a homeschooling family and are very concerned as to where this law could relate to the legality of homeschooling in our nation. It is scary to think in OUR nation a wind of change is blowing and not for the better. As for the abortion issue, that is mixing apples and oranges. The world is pro choice, make no mistake and the UN resolution would NOT protect the unborn!

  • Homeschooling will be targeted. Parents that do not comply with the new ‘requirements’ will eventually be targeted and be held in comptent of the authorities. Parents and children will be separated from each other and religious rights would be ignored. Check Europe: parents in Germany were put in prison for homeschooling and their children were put in foster care…

  • This seems unreal, but it is scary how easily people can be tricked into thinking this may be a good thing…Our media is an excellent example of how to get people to do what they want without seeing what dangers lie below the surface. Look at our elections. We are one step closer to this type of thing when we begin to socialize. I am afraid. We all should be. Look at what we have ahead of us now…people will see soon enough.

  • Now that we have elected a leader that seems to be favoring this intolerable way of thinking, we may all want to begin flooding his office with phone calls, e-mails and letters. The only way to make our voices heard on issues such as these is to become a LOUD voice and not stop until permanent protections have been put into place.   • This just show how far the world system has come in intelligence. Since when does the child have more protection in the way of freedom than the parents who birth them. This Act is leading the world to a place wherein we may actual see the adoption of a one world government, where not the children are being protected, but those who are given authority to decide what they feel is best for all to submit to, and thus take away all liberties that makes America who they are.

  • I agree that a petition should be signed, but I also think there is more to it than that. We as Christians parents need to get down on our knees and pray to God. We need to teach our children scripture - make it a part of them. Who knows, that may be all they have later in life to help them know which way to go. We also need to pray hard for a revival across America! It is SO desperately needed. We need to let a revival start in our own hearts. Then we need to do everything in our power, no matter how uncomfortable it makes us feel, to get out there and do something to prevent this wrong that is threatening our lives and the lives of our children. This may look end timish, but don’t accept the change just because it is bound to happen. Step out and try to stop it. God doesn’t expect us to just let it happen! And if you are wondering, I’m talking to myself here, too. I have to get off my rump and do all I can to stop this and get a revival started!!!

  • I know that this is scary, but it hasn’t happened yet. I agree with Kay. Obama and the UN are a threat to our Liberty, but we must remember that half of the people in this country did not vote for him. We are not like other countries’ citizens, we are strong and have the blood of revolutionaries in our veins. We will be ready just like the Revolutionaries were and like the Confederates were who bravely fought against big government’s oppression. It is time for all to learn the truth (not the government’s version) of the War Between the States. Learn the truth about Lincoln because we need to know the truth about our own history to be able to stand up to what is coming. People who don’t know their history will believe anything. I am strong, my family is strong, we come from strong people and I will never give up my children or my gun! If we are strong, they will never accomplish their goal to make us like every other country in this world. Remember that we are AMERICANS, that our country was founded with God’s blessing, and that God will help us, but we will have to fight for what we believe in. So get off your couches, get your priorities straight, learn TRUE history, let your fear motivate you, and let’s roll!

  • The sad truth is that for each loving caring parent who has voiced opposition to this kind of government interferance, there are 10 more who would gladly hand over their children to the government so there burden would be less. The same people who are handing over their freedom to the government for promises of security, equality and prosperity now. Make no mistake, with a socialist controlled executive branch AND a socialist controlled legislative branch who will be sure to appoint a socialist leaning judicial branch very soon, the country and the constitution will be at there mercy and there will be little any of us can do. They can scrap the constitution and remake it in their image and we will not be able to stop them, not without bloodshed. For all of those with their heads in the sand who still believe “that can’t happen here…” remember that is what they said in Germany, Itally, Russia, Cuba, China, Korea, Viet Nam, Vennezuala, France to name a few. Barak Hussein Obama has said that he embraces the ideals of the UN and of this particular legislation. And why would he not, all of his mentors and associations have groomed him to move us toward the One-World government. Once they are firmly in pour, a petition will mean little. Nor is the time for prayer and I urge you all to review Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, its not just a hippie song!

  • Consider getting behind any candidate that isn’t afriad to speak out against the U.S. pulling out of the U.N.

    Ron Paul did and was all for family rights and keeping the government out of our homes and wallets. I voted for him in the primaries.

    Jessie Ventura said he would pull us out of the UN and may run for 2012 if a large enough group gets behind him and stays behind him. NOW is the time to start campaigning for at least issues for the 2012 elections and raising awareness of these critical issues.

    Keep e-mailing and calling your Congressional Representatives and Senators and tell them you want out of the UN. Encourage everyone you know to do that.

  • PRAY PRAY PRAY! Pray for the government to be wise. History teaches us that those with wrongful intentions can still be used to glorify God. We don’t need to embrace fear, but vigilance is necessary. We need to truly become the guardians and champions of our children where the battle actually takes place…in the spirit. Train your child to know what truth is, don’t leave it up to schools, churches or any other institution. Pray fervently and consistently over them. Prayer works and we may still hold the encroaching storm of bondage at bay through prayer.

  • We are a Christian,homeschooling,(new to) hunting family who takes immence enjoyment raising our children to be ethical, God fearing, helpful citizens. Parents are not the only targets of “change”. Freedom of speech as we know it is considered the enemy of the governments modern thinkers. Our “right to bear arms”, provided for us by our forefathers stands threatened as never before. The not so wonderful one government healthcare system will serve as the vehicle for the convienent numbering and monitering of all people. Folks need to educate themselves on all of these fronts. You may not hunt,but many of you will agree that if a thief/sexual offender/murderer were to enter your home while your children are sleeping, you would do all that is in your power to protect them from harm (we will use our firearms). We need to stand as one against changes in ANY of our freedoms, they are all enevitably connected. We have strenghth in numbers. We owe it to our grandparents of old who died to set us free, and we owe it to our prodigy. Sign every petition for every freedom which is thretened, call and email you leaders till they know you by name, and above all else fast and pray.

  • We truly must, MUST start speaking out against the immorality and evil that is working so diligently to take our children from us. Conservatives have too long tried to be civil, genteel, and “politically correct” in these matters, when what we should be doing is screaming in indignation about the violation of our rights like the homosexual activists have done for the past three decades. How do we gape in amazement that they are accomplishing their goals when we are in actuality the silent majority? A small handful of people are pushing these ungodly laws into place because they are screaming their demands. We, the conservative majority, MUST fight back! And not in a mannerly fashion either, but tooth and nail! Just because we are Christians does not mean we have to take this lying down! The Bible says to fight for the will of the Lord. Please, people, band together before it is too late.

  • We are a homeschooling family of 7 children. We take prie in the fact that we have worked hard and, in our view, successfully, to raise our children in accorance with God’s laws, not necessarily our nation’s laws. We need to pray for and be in contact with our elected officials to insure that the UN is not allowed to interfere with our sovereign nation, and ultimately our God given right and responsibility to raise our children in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord”.

  • The question is…Are we all willing to fight for our rights and for the freedoms won by our forefathers so many years ago. We are at a time, and many Americans made a choice (Obama), where the very freedoms we are know for around the world might fall to the way side forever! Unless, those who believe in God, this Country and Freedom ban together for the most worthy of all fights! I am willing and will sign any and all petitions that will help preserve my rights as a parent and as a citizen of these United States. History shows that it just takes ONE to destroy a nations, but it takes many to not let that one take control!

  • Thank our dear Lord that I’ve been privileged to teach my son at home since 3rd grade. We are at the end of our home schooling (11th grade)and I praise God for allowing me to be his influence not the gov’t. I feel sorry for those with young children because I’m afraid the home schooling days are over. I will fight with you for the rights of our children!!   • Under the circumstances it would be so very easy to slip into depression and inactivity, but God wants us to see it as a call to war over the spiritual condition of this nation. The war is, of course, going to be fought in the spiritual realm, with weapons of prayer, fasting and true soul-searching, followed by the act of putting our feet on the ground and walking out our beliefs. Do not mourn what is not yet lost; instead, let your concern fuel a passionate desire to effect real change in this nation, and to preserve the freedoms for which our nation’s bravest have given “the last full measure of devotion.”

    Above all, always remember that no matter who sleeps in the White House, GOD STILL SITS ON HIS THRONE, and He wants us to continue to do battle in His name!

    P.S.- I’m a homeschooling mom too, and I share nearly all of the concerns that have been previously posted, but I do not wish to be swallowed up in despair. I choose to state that God is already victorious, no matter what challenges He allows us to face. We will grow stronger because of them ONLY IF WE DON’T GIVE UP!

  • I’ve said to my wife all along that this nation is not truly a Christian nation or we wouldn’t be in this mess right now. Those that profess to be believers have voted for the wrong people, not put their money where their mouth is, and have set aside Biblical principals for worldly ones. I too have been guilty of some of this and have asked God for forgiveness and strength for my idiotic decisions or oversights. Let’s get real; everyone here has had great comments because the Spirit of God is letting us know that this is truly the beginning of the end of the U.S. as we know it. This country was founded on Biblical principals and even if you weren’t a believer, you had a respect and fear of God that made sexual immorality, abortion, and greedy ambition things to scorn, not embrace. My wife and I have been in prayer, Bible study, and constant information seeking to keep ourselves aware of God’s plan in these times. The time for our lukewarm Christianity in this country is over. God is calling us to stand firm and shout His righteousness and Gospel to this country, whether people heed it or not. We may not save this country from the plans God has for it, but as believers we must be faithful to God in all areas, speaking the truth in love and meekness, yet with Spiritual boldness. I’ve heard some people suggest a game plan; this is good, but remember, without believers in one accord being informed about these things, it won’t happen. Without money given for the task, it won’t happen. Remember, the god this country seeks after is money and if you have enough, you can promote any message (even a Godly one) if the price is right. And most important, believers must be informed of what God says in His Word about all these things and it is sad that our Bible study is as lukewarm as our walks. Without God’s direction through His Word and the Holy Spirit, we will not have enough insight or discernment to make the right decisions. As believers, we have to be about God’s business in all areas or this U.N. plan will just be another thing we let slip through the cracks. Let us sincerely pray for God’s mercy and direction in these evil times, because it will only get worst, yet God is always faithful to save His own through the storms that will come, even here in the U.S. The question is; will we stand up and be the city on the hill and the shining light God calls us to be or will we believe the hype the unsaved world throws our way to numb, blind, and distract us. Let’s pray in Jesus name that we would be steadfast in anything we do. Thanks for reading and God bless.

  • Honestly, all the petitions and protests are meaningless to what the world desires to do, remember to whom the world belongs to….In God’s Word, we read about how Daniel continued to pray despite the laws forbidding such actions. The fact of the laws being passed to begin with was obviously orchestrated by the current ruler of this world, who continues to rule to this day, but the story also illustrates God’s glorious grace and mercy through His deliverance of Daniel in the end….

    How does this apply now? Well, we must also hold true to His Word when he tells us that it will be as it was in the days of Noah before He comes again to reclaim the earth and purify it from it’s current wickedness. As it is illustrated so vividly in the Foxes Book of Martyrs numerous brothers and sisters have been killed because of the laws passed during thier lives. But again God is glorified in thier stories of commitment to hold fast to His word unto death. Many more deaths are going to come to all those who claim the name of Jesus Christ as Lord. In the past America was immune to much of the worlds persecutions, not to say that any christians have’nt over the history of our country lost thier lives because of thier faith, but most assuredly more will be lost as we trade in our liberities to the one world order that has been foretold in thr book of Revelation. ” When these things begin to come to pass, look up…..” Luke 21:28 Let us NEVER forget!, OUR children are our responsibility, God will hold US accountable to what we allow them to be exposed to, therefore despite what laws are passed….we must ALWAYS obey God’s word as did Daniel.

  • I am at times completely overwhelmed by the enormity of my responsibility of being a parent of three children. This is one such time. I know we must come together as christians, as parents and do something. We need to support each other. We need to stand firm, whatever that means. At times like these I almost want to just go live on a mountain and live off the land, escaping it all, but I know that won’t change anything. We need to PRAY!!! God have mercy on this country! I pray we can come out of the next four years with our rights and morality intact!

I try to emphasize education to my children, yet allow them to explore different options in life. I try to let them experience new things and appreciate everything they have. How can we possibly continue on with our lives, when someone is constantly invading them? A crisis to us is if the local store is out of our brand of hairspray or deoderant. We busy ourselves over meaningless things and often let the big things go unnoticed. God please help us to wake up!     I completed a Master of Advanced Studies in Children’s Rights last year in Switzerland (I’m from Boston) and given that the US has a dualist legal system, ratifying the convention would not bring it into law. Each law would need to be passed individually.

  • Ok, ok enough,god I swear some of you read too much of those NRA magazines, because it looks as though some of the posts are excerpted from those things. second of all,not all children are removed from the home. Investigated on suspicion, yes not all are removed.There are times thatconstant investigation to some parents in case there is alcohol, drug abuse and or physical abuse happens in the home. I read in lots of posts about pray, pray, pray I tell you you can’t get anything done while being on your knees and praying, it isn’t done. You got to get up and do something about your rights, prayer only helps you in your endeavors,(sic).And using fear does the exct opposite to what you want to do. People will just except the fact thatitis gonna happen and be doneith it.
    Actually you can contact your senators and the presient-elect and voice your fears the more people raise their voices the more he will have to pay attention

    The unconstitutionality of this UN Convention needs to be highlighted and maintained when talking about this to anyone, especially lawmakers.
    We have gone from beng a free republic to a semi-socialist country, and that is what happens in socialistic societies, the state owns you and your children body and soul.
    I fear with this new president-elect and his very liberal ideas that we may end up signing this treaty, which would be the very end of America as we knew it.

This would be one more step in undermining our individual freedoms, principles on which our great nation was founded. We, as parents and citizens of what is still the best country in the world must be on our guard against such intrusions into the freedoms guaranteed by our constitution. I fully agree with Joyce Britton’s comment above. We need to renew our committment to a society founded on Biblical principles, a nation whose motto is truly, “In God We Trust>’ I would call on all Christians to pray for our nation to follow the path that God shows us in His word, and part of that is to raise up our children in the ways they should follow. He promises that they will not deviate from that way when they grow up. The government can’t spend my money in a better way than I am able to on my own. How much less can they understand or know what is best for my children?

  • I went to UNICEF’s page to read more detail about the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and I do not understand why everyone is responding to this as something that is scary. Children all over the world are being abused and sold into sexual slavery. This Convention is part of what the UN is trying to do to protect these children. The page also stated multiple times, and explicitly, that they also promote the PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY of the parents in caring for and giving guidance to their own children. I feel that this page is trying to join many other groups that are simply fear-mongering. People should read into these things for themselves and use their brains before giving into this fearful mentality.

    Also, as believing Christians, we ought to know that in the end, all institutionally-enforced agendas will never accomplish God’s mission in the world. Only the Church can. So while we may disagree and see some potentially harmful impacts to certain things, we must also remind ourselves that the Church is not called to “fight” against these things, but to set an example for the world in the way that we live and love our children.

    The government wants to control us, and they are, little by little, taking away our rights.

    They want to tell us how to school our kids, what they should learn, when to spank or not to spank, when to vaccinate. These are just a few of the examples of that control.

    All these people that voted for our new president are going to feel the pain in the very near future for that choice.

    No matter how much governemnt control their is or isnt, there will still be sex slavery going on, the government controling us is not going to change that one bit. God never called us to stand by idly whilst things happened to us but to stand up and fight for what is right and just. Love is not our only calling.

We need to educate all those that we come in contact with and who may not understand that parents have a God-given, constitutional right to direct the upbringing of their children.
    As for people who think that this will protect children from abuse, they are sadly mistaken. Giving up our parental rights will do nothing for the neglected children of the world. Take a look at the “European model” that our left-leaning politicians are so enamored with and you will find high teen suicide rates, sexual exploitation and all sorts of social maladies.
    It is imperative that we do not allow this to become law in our nation!

    Prayer IS powerful. It accomplishes much. In fact, we are powerless without it. Without it, our acts are futile. We are told in God’s Word to pray without ceasing. To pray before we act. To pray before planning and before confronting. And on and on. Look up “Prayer” in your Bible’s subject index, to find it in the many scriptures.

    God’s Word, the Bible, has a wealth of scriptures directing us how to live abundantly, even in the midst of the worst of storms. Love, hope, faith, inner peace, grace, strength, mercy - and more - are all within our reach simply by claiming the scriptures!

    Let’s not be frozen in fear (and negativity), but face reality by clinging to God’s Word for our every need, by praying without ceasing, and then by acting when we are led to do so by the Holy Spirit.

    I for one do not like our new president or anything he stands for, but he is our president now and we are to repsect him and realize that GOD is in control, not this one man.

  • As a homeschool mom this is an out rage that they would even try to pass this UN bill on the Rights of a child. I know that God has given me the right to raise my child in a Godly enviroment and to teach him right from wrong. I also know that we as parents have to make a stand with the help of God to make sure that our children are able to grow in a relationship with God as well as a education that we are aloud to provide.     Parents please educate yourselves on child abuse laws and the fourth amendment. Child protective services really are bardging in peoples homes and taking away children…without probable cause and this is illegal…lawmakers have re-written the laws to ensure the stripping away of parental rights! it is happening in America!!

  • Becky, To start with, we as parents can and should be the strongest influence in our children’s lives. To start with don’t send them to the public school-they are Pro-UN and this is where they are indoctrinated with children’s rights, even today, even for the past two decades, telling the children to report their parents to 911 or others if they are grounded or punished. It’s been going on, so don’t submit your children to this indoctrination. Moses tells us to speak of the Lord when we rise up when we eat when we lay down, in other words we are to teach our children of our God, sing his praises, ground our children in our faith. This is where we as Christian parents fail so many times. We figure Sunday school and church once a week is enough. No, God wants us to continually be speaking and living out our faith. And second, raise your own children, don’t submit them to secularly trained supervivors running a day-care. They have also been indoctrinated through their public schooling and college/university education, which is very liberal, even Christian colleges are moving that way. God blessed you with them, raise them for Him. That is a mother’s greatest, most fulfilling career.

  • To those who think that this treaty is harmless, and after reading it which I have done, it sounds really good, but, there are loopholes that are dangerous and there’s already been trouble in European countries from this treaty. Juliet,11/11, don’t be the frog who is lulled to his death in the kettle of water as the temperature is raised. That is what is happening to our country and the Christians are running through the poppy fields and falling asleep, pre-arranged by socialists and communists decades ago, almost a century ago. We need to get active, not pretend everything is all innocent. Hiding from the truth, saying this is all fearmongering, is what the liberals want. I’ve read what lawyers have said about this article too. I hope you, Juliet, will do the same so that you are not researching only one side.

  • Friends we need to pray for a revival in this land. People must repent of breaking all of God’s laws and commands and turn back and follow them, as they are empowered by His Holy Spirit. We should be giving attention to the public reading of scripture. There is power in God’s Word. Find public places where you can just stand and read the Word of God. Gather two, three, or more and do this. Just read and proclaim His Word. Let His Spirit move, to convict and change hearts. Remember His word is living and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intentions of hearts.   • Hi there, I am on your side and I am so afraid for the world we will leave our children. I am an LDS Mormon living in CA and it is just amazing the religious intolerance that has blossomed out here since the passing of proposition 8. It’s not something I expected to see in my life time, but it’s here and it’s growing. Anyway, my sister started up a blog, beetlebabee.wordpress.com and now she has a huge following.   • There are so many things going on that strike my heart.I wish I was taught earlier about whats really important and thats living like God whats us to live, love and have faith, Being greater examples of his words, well thats what I’m having to do EDUCATING myself and my beautiful children, Dare to Dream, Never ever give up, learn about God and the world we live in. Even when you see children under 7years old taking care of a 1year old living on the streets with out help from there leaders in Africa. What about other countries? Part of the UN rights of the child. WE have been BLESSED and we must stay strong to be blessed and to defend our families.   • Parents must be empowered, but also instructed - and this must happen from pulpits in America, where biblically wise and adherent preachers thunder out the truths of that Holy Book.

    It’s admonishments to love your neighbor, and to train up your children, and to do right for Christ’s sake are all the instruction we need. None of us will benefit from this other form of instruction which takes as its foundation the ridiculous notion that we sprand spontaneously alive from muddy water — and evolved from fish to amphibians, to reptiles and finally to mammals.

    Man is not an animal - but created free, and in God’s image - as the Founders knew.

    But how can people hear unless there is a preacher? How is there hope if we censure ourselves, or fail to think about these things, and write and discuss it - keeping our faith in a church, or on one day of the week, to observe it?

    Wicked people are unworthy to teach their children, or to wield any other influence, no different from wicked government. We must improve the nation by helping to improve each other.

    Freedom is wasted on those who are slaves to their own evil ways.

    Even so, freedom is preferable to tyranny.

    So we must better ourselves, while we fight to retain our liberty.

    One of the most fundamental commandments you have from God is to raise your children “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4). God commands all parents to diligently teach their children about God at all times (Deuteronomy 6:4-7). A clear implication of this is you are required by God to protect your children from any teaching that contradicts this teaching. We don’t teach them that there is one God in the evening and then send them to school during the day where they are taught there are many gods. Theologians throughout the history of the church have acknowledged that Christians have a duty before God to disobey any command from the civil magistrate that would force them to disobey God. “We will obey God and not men” (Acts 5:29; c.f. Daniel 3:18).

    Parents: If you are not doing so already, begin to pray and study this very real issue. The day is mostly likely coming when you will be tested on this front. Will you obey God or man? If the civil magistrate commands you to disobey God by allowing your children to be taught lies, you must–with wisdom, shrewdness and respect–obey God and not men.

  • Have you read the convention? It’s not really scary. Americans already enjoy most of the benefits it outlines. In Illinois, it’s the Department of Children and Family Services, which tries to monitor children at risk and get them out of harms way when family life breaks down. We mostly hear about the failures - an infant beaten to death by a frustrated babysitter or parent. Why shouldn’t children everywhere get the same protections we try to give American children? I know I’m not typical of other posters here so I hope you’re tolerant of other views. I simply have hope that life can be better for children everywhere if people of good will try to help. Call me naive if you want.

  • This artical had me with “Imagine an Air Force mom, serving her country on a month-long deployment”. Instead of being a keeper at home she is a keeper on the “homefront”.

    The Christian family has so far assimilated to fit the Marxist model that a mother in the military goes un-questioned in an article written with regard to the preservation of the American family. We can give our mothers up to the workplace and to the war front, but God forbid we allow a Marxist takeover under an Obama administration.

    Perhaps you’re not up on current events but most American families (including Christian families) have already assimilated to the Marxist model without giving it any thought. The opening statement of this article is good evidence of that. What really is the Christian family about anymore and how is the Christian model so much different?

  • LTC Jeff White, you are undoubtedly inundated with reminders of the importance of freedom while you are in Baghdad. The problem here in America is that so many people have not studied our history. Admittedly, my interest in history surfaced in my adult years after reading “Black Indians.” Since reading that book, I have studied the Constitution, I have read why the founding fathers wanted the Bill of Rights (when others claimed the Constitution already afforded those rights), and I have studied world history. Over and over I have read on this site posts where the suggestion of giving up freedom may promote more protection of children. I do not believe this as history has taught us differently. The answer is to enforce the laws we have to protect our children. The answer is to hold parents accountable for not allowing their children to thrive. The answer is not to take away overall parental discretion. Nearly every creation instructs their young. As humans, we are afforded an even greater responsibility. More education to parents should be made available instead of more government intervention on every family. Anyone can make a baby - but that doesn’t mean everyone will be a good parent. DFC does not have a better record of raising children. One only has to look at their record. Children are still better off with their parents. Being a parent isn’t perfection though parents can use some perfecting! However, outside international interference is not what is necessary to achieve a balance for the children falling through the cracks.

    Creator? Notice how they capitalize that in the original text. They were not yet confused and polluted with the nonsense of a self-generating universe - caused by randomness over millions of years — but knew the Creator, and recognized His handiwork — in almost every individual case…

    And yes, rights are easy to appreciate once removed. And responsibilities are not naturally accepted - but must be taught, and insisted upon.

    You have made our point for us. We already have our own laws that protect children. We are not saying that protection of children elsewhere is a bad thing. What we are saying is that we should not allow the UN to have a say so in how we raise our children. Do you really think parents who even care enough to read this don’t want what best for children?? If people of good will try to help children everywhere that is a good thing. Having hope is not naive, but do not assume that this convention would bring good to our nation. It will bring big brother into our homes even more than he already is.

    I am a homeschooling Mother of two special needs children. I have never put my children in day care for a reason, I am best suited to care for them and God knows better than any of us. My oldest son was being sent to the slaughter in our local public schools and after just 8 months I pulled him out just in time. They allowed him to be bullied and would not give him even the smallest amount of support in dealing with his social problems brought on by Asperger’s. They are the ones this convention would allow to determine what is best for my son. Why? Do they love him? No! Did they carry him for 9 months with severe 24 morning sickness? No! Will they have to live with the consequences if they screw up? No! Big government has never ben a good thing.

    Homwschooling my child has been a huge blessing and I will not send him back to public schools unless they force me into jail. They have done that in other countries, I pray that never happens here.

    FIght for your freedoms and do not get lulled into believing the lies that sound so good on the surface.

  • Wow, this is such an awful lot of crazy paranoid stuff. Aren’t you aware that Barack Obama is a Christian? Who is even talking about taking away home-school rights? As one person said, this is pure fear mongering.
    Also, what is this fear of “big government”? I am sorry to inform you that many of your neighbors are hugely worse off than their counterparts in other countries because of your lack of bigger government. Every day Americans lose their homes and their security to gigantic medical expenses - this doesn’t happen in other western countries. Do you think that is right? In this, one of the wealthiest countries in the world, many people cannot afford to see a doctor or a dentist when they get sick. Is this right?
    In this “free” country many children don’t get the opportunity to equal education, is that right?
    In this “free” country many of you, who fear losing the freedom to educate your children how you like, seem to feel it is OK to deny others their freedom to be who they are, as evidenced by remarks about homosexuals. Is that right?
    One commentator seems to be suggesting that the pre-Civil war era was better, does she regret the freedom granted to African Americans? Is that Christian? Perhaps she feels the President Elect should know his place and that place is as somebody’s property?
    Another commentator talked about the sexual misconduct, murder and mayhem practiced in other countries - there is so more per capita of that in this country than in other countries - the “right to bear arms” has meant that this country is awash in guns and that has made it easier for tragedies like Columbine to happen. Aside from a hunting rifle for country dwellers, ordinary people in this country keep man-killing guns including assault rifles, why would you even want, let alone approve of, these killing machines in your homes - remember the sixth commandment (5th if you are Catholic or Lutheran).

    Barack Obama is so far from being a socialist it is not true. But the teachings of Jesus would suggest that he was promoting socialist ideals - healing the sick for free, sharing the loaves and fishes with all comers (sharing the wealth?), promoting the love of all mankind “love thy neighbor as thy self” - the color, race, creed, nationality, sexual orientation et al are not specified. He meant all of your neighbors, not some of them.

    And who gave you this idea that God “blessed the creation of America”?
    Let us remember in this month of “Thanksgiving” that America was founded on the betrayal and destruction of its native peoples and built on the backs of slaves - do you think God approved of and blessed that? America, like many other places was created by brute force - it is as much or as little “God’s country” as any other country.

    But back to the point: relax. No one is going to move in on your kids. Unless they have a good reason… Why so scared about the idea of children’s rights? Most of you are anti-abortion - you believe in the rights of embryos but would deny the born their rights? Many of you seem to think that only people in foreign countries abuse and enslave children - don’t you know that happens here too? And by “nice white Christian Americans” among others? If you are doing right by your children, you should have nothing to fear. If not, be afraid, be very afraid. In the meantime, just try to live the good Christian lives you claim to be living, and try not to teach your children fear, racism and bigotry - try to teach them love, tolerance, and compassion, like Jesus told you to. And maybe a little science too.

    First, educate yourself on the veracity of these issues. Do not learn from second-hand sources and interpretations, go directly to the original source, in this case the UN websites. This particular issue on the rights of the child is not about giving children a bill of rights which they can then use to hold their parents to ransom. It is to protect all children everywhere from exploitation and to attempt to ensure that all children have their basic needs met with regard to nutrition, shelter and education. It is not designed to harass families of homeschooled children. Regarding your worries about your children’s futures - we all have cause to worry, but not because of some sci-fi world dominating conspiracy theory.

  • I guess no one here is familiar with what the Communist Manifesto says (you can find it on Wikipedia easily)—–it was written by COMMUNISTS—-take a look around at all the Communist countries—do you really think that is where you would want to live? Those principles are the same ones that our President-elect has been touting. Look it up—you will be amazed! I don’t think it’s right for MY hard-earned money to be spread to those who find it ok to sit on their behinds-even the Bible tells us we are to work and enjoy the fruits of it. I am not teaching my children to wait for others to take care of them—but to LEARN how to take care of themselves.

We must not look back but continue looking forward towards our goal of giving God all the glory all the days of our lives however long they may be.   • I am 15 and this seems horrifying. I am going to do more research on this law and if it is as bad as (almost)everyone says it is I am going to do something against it-email and call local reps,contact others against this to organize petitions, marches, ways to get media coverage so the vast majority that doesn’t know about this law will be informed. PEOPLE NEED TO BE INFORMED!!! The vast majority don’t know anything about new laws until it is too late! The government DOESN’T CARE ABOUT YOU, they are in it for the money and power(most of them, there are rare exceptions)-listen to what happened to my family. The public schools had bullying problems they didn’t want to do anything about because the bullies were on sports teams. They didn’t have soap throughout the whole school until mid-november. My mom tried to fight for student rights to safety and a clean learning enviornment-we tried appealing to the local board of education, even the state level but we were told there was no one higher than the local board. The good old buddy system in the government. So they banned my mother from the schools, efficiently kicking my brother and myself out almost 3 years ago. We are now homeschooled. THE GOVERNMENT OBVIOUSLY HAS THEIR OWN INTERESTS AT HEART-NOT THE CHILDRENS! I will be checking facts and trying to make a difference-not necessarily in a peaceful, non-invasive way. In our society, you need to be outrageous to be heard-but you can still be godly!

  • Dear Homeschool Mom, the world isn’t divided up between America and Communist countries (those that still exist as such), there are many other models to choose from: Canada and Australia, European countries like Briton, France and Ireland that are free and democratic but still have good safety nets to take care of their citizens. Imagine if you get sick and cannot earn that money to pay your bills. What would just one year of zero income do to you and your family? Unless perhaps you are in the category of people earning over $300 K per annum??? Anyway, this new Government will still be a far cry from any of those other WESTERN countries when it comes to safety nets, but maybe it’ll be a little bit kinder than the Bush admin. to middle and working class families, including homeschool families many of whom are not well off as usually there is only one income as one parent is home being the primary teacher and care-giver.

    Kim, you are right and I am sure you take excellent care of your children. But do you feel the same parental rights should be accorded to people who rent their small children out to their pals or maybe strangers on the internet as sex toys? Or who beat and starve their children? Don’t you think the law should step in to protect those children and their RIGHTS, even if it means taking them away to be raised by strangers? Laws that recognise the rights of the child are not intended to negate the rights of the parents and are not out to remove children from good, or even semi-good, homes.
    So don’t be frightened or alarmed by sensationalist exaggerations.

  • Oh and for those of you who think this UN stuff is good, what right do they have to mess with OUR laws? They are NOT our government and I refuse to obey them. Sure it might be something they want to rescue kids who are being sold into slavery etc, but the one size fits all world government does NOT bode well for the US.

    We do have a state legislator who is a hero and has proposed a bill that would keep the rights of parents to direct the health and education of their children. It is sad when this has to be done, but it MUST be done.

  • In Missouri, my family has been victimized by a particular social worker named Kelli Hodge, who’s sole testimony is taken over that of another social worker, witnesses and the local police. The system seems bent on protecting her and denying my right to submit my own testimony or have anyone speak on my behalf. Clearly, our constitutional rights should be guaranteed, and no organization should be beyond following the due process of the law and working within the philosophy of the bill of rights. Furthermore, I’ve learned that many social workers are not trained and lack any professional education to guide them in making such serious judgement calls. In Missouri, social workers are even given bonuses for removing children from homes. This is a policy that encourages corruption. Apparently, the agency also fails to conduct adequate background checks on their employees, because in our effort to make sense of the vague communication between us and the agency, we also conducted a background check on the social worker, Kelli Hodge. This investigation revealed a history of falsified documents, mental illness, and identity theft. I have submitted a request for an investigation to the FBI and desire to share the documents that we have found in support of our case and to find justice. The FBI still hasn’t responded. I used to believe in this country and all of the propaganda that claims why the US is the best country in the world. Now, I wonder if any of it is true. If I can’t fight back through legal means or even find an opportunity to submit my evidence and testimony, then I’ll keep thinking about playing by their rules and create my own registry of corrupt social workers, which will not only include testimonies, but hard evidence. The fact that I would submit evidence means that I would still have a higher standard than DFS. Unlike DFS, I would not be guilty of slander, because I wouldn’t state anything not supported by the evidence.

    I’m already grateful to Claire Mccaskill for pushing a law that requires DFS to offer a trial before placing people on a registry. Unfortunately, DFS still isn’t abiding by the law or at least by the intent of the law. A certified letter about their intentions is required by law to be sent to the accused. The same is true about set court dates. Such a letter was never sent to the accused, but was signed by someone else. This leaves the accused in a situation, where they may never receive such a letter and may not be aware of any court date. If the case is the result of a domestic battle, this also gives a false assuser the power to control the situation.

And do you think that we should teach our children to hate this country because of the propaganda being taught in public schools (”built on the backs of slaves”)? We homeschool so that we can teach our children to think for themselves and learn the REAL history of this country. “Tolerance” is just the newest lie we’re being asked to teach our kids. We love sinners but make no mistake. We HATE sin.

  • To Clar—I never said nor implied that every other country was communistic—I said to look at the ones that all the ones that ARE….Socialism is one step from Communism. Also–I am not shopping for a new “model” in terms of my country. I already live in the best one in the world. America was founded on conservative, capitalist values—if I wanted what Canada and Britain offered—if I truly thought they had it better—I would pack up and move, but I don’t. If we as Christians (as a whole) were doing what the Bible told us to do—no one would have to worry about how they were going to pay their hospital bill or what they were going to do if they lost their job–because WE are commanded to take care of those who can’t (not to be confused with those who don’t even bother trying). The Amish people I believe have it right. People think they are a little strange—but if people would take the time to study a little about them they would learn a great deal. They do not rely on any government assistance—they take care of each other. But, obviously that is the whole problem—people are content to let the government take care of them without the thought of the definite consequences. I don’t want the government to take care of me or my family except for the ways outlined in the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Also, if Obama (who is a fan of the UN) is soooo concerned about the welfare and safety of children—then why did he vote THREE times against giving medical assistance to babies who SURVIVED abortion?????
